Check-In Process

The Valletta Lucente Hotel truly makes you feel welcomed, pampered, and relaxed.

The moment we entered this charming hotel, we were greeted immediately, offered a drink, and given a comfortable couch to relax on.

Check-in was smooth, efficient, and completed by Dorothy, one of the owners. She was very kind, and welcoming, and spoke perfect English.

We were shown around the hotel, the ceramic shop, the breakfast atrium, the after-hours door, and provided tips on visiting Valletta.

She showed us to our room, made sure we were comfortable and asked us to contact her if we needed anything. We felt welcomed and taken care of.

One of the best features of this guesthouse is its amazing location.

Located in the heart of the historic center, the Valletta Lucente Hotel is a short 3-minute walk to Strait Street, the main walking street in Valletta.

Helpful Tip: Valletta’s historic center is pedestrian-only, mostly flat, and easily walkable. You must climb a few shallow steps (or take a wide ramp) to reach Strait Street from the hotel.

The central location of the Valletta Lucente Hotel makes it an ideal starting point to explore the city’s historic and cultural treasures.

You can easily walk to iconic landmarks like St. John’s Co-Cathedral, Grand Master Palace, and the Upper Barrakka Gardens. Valletta truly is one of the reasons Malta is worth visiting!

From the hotel’s doorstep, you can wander the narrow streets, and discover the city’s hidden gems for yourself. It doesn’t take long to understand why Valletta is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

We also found many fantastic restaurants, charming cafes, dessert shops, and little markets within minutes of the hotel.

The breakfast at the Valletta Lucente Hotel was out of this world incredible!

Not only was it the BEST breakfast we had during our 12 days in Malta, but it was the best hotel breakfast we have EVER had.

Every morning, a homemade breakfast was prepared by the owners themselves and served in the lovely open atrium.

Fresh Maltese sausages, a selection of cheeses, and homemade jams and spreads were arranged in a beautiful display.

They served fresh loaves of bread, cooked-to-order eggs, yogurts, Maltese cakes, a variety of fruits, and unlimited juices, teas, and coffee!

The delicious culinary feast and incredible service at the Valletta Lucente Hotel were truly a highlight of our stay.

The customer service and hospitality we experienced at the Valletta Lucente Hotel were impeccable!

The owners were consistently polite, friendly, and happy to help us with any aspect of our trip.

Upon arrival, Dorothy answered all our questions and provided us with local tips on can’t miss attractions and the best restaurants in Valletta.

When we rented a car in Malta, she contacted the agency and helped coordinate a pickup location and time. She always went above and beyond to ensure our trip ran smoothly.

She can also help you book your Malta boat tour of Comino!

The owners prided themselves on approachable, friendly, and unmatched customer service. We honestly couldn’t recommend them more!

Amenities

The extra amenities at the Valletta Lucente Hotel should not be overlooked.

✔️Elevator: An elevator is not common in Malta, but this feature is important if you use a wheelchair, live with chronic pain, or have limited mobility… like me!

✔️Airport Shuttle: If you’re concerned about finding your way to the hotel once you get to Malta, the owners can arrange a shuttle pickup for an additional charge.

✔️Orthopedic Mattress: The mattresses provided are very comfortable, but guests can request an orthopedic mattress if needed.

✔️Ceramics Shop: This shop inside the hotel sells beautiful locally made glass and ceramic art. We are in love with blown glass and Dorothy was happy to chat about the pieces with us.

Valletta Lucente Hotel: Pros & Cons

The Pros

Here is our list of the very best qualities of the Valletta Lucente Hotel.

Location  in historic center, close to top Valletta attractions

Quiet – very quiet and ideal for a restful sleep

Comfort – beds were comfortable, firm, and supportive

Breakfast  the best hotel breakfast on our trip

Hospitality – both owners were friendly and helpful

Amenities – lots of nearby shops & restaurants

Air Conditioning – excellent AC that worked well

The Cons

Nothing is perfect, right? So, here is a short list of the property’s negatives.

Hillside  The property is on a hilly pedestrian-only street which might be challenging for those with mobility issues.

[To be fair, every street leading to the main walking street is steep. It is unavoidable in Valletta, but needs to be mentioned.]

Windows – Not all rooms have external windows. Instead, some open to the atrium in the center of the hotel.

[This will depend on your budget and the room you choose to book.]

Large Groups  This property may not be ideal for large families or groups, as most rooms only have one bed.

[The owners are very friendly and may accommodate special requests. The only adjoining rooms are the Prestige Rooms.]

Instant Coffee – Breakfast coffee is instant and not freshly brewed.

[Not a big deal to us, but it may be for you.]

How to Get to the Valletta Lucente Hotel

The best (and easiest) way to get to the Valletta Lucente Hotel is to take a taxi or private transfer from the airport.

We used Get Transfer and booked a private transfer. It was convenient, fast, and safe and the driver spoke English.

We were dropped off at the intersection of St. Paul and St. Lucia Street, the pedestrian-only walking street where the hotel is located.

Less than 40 meters, it took 1 minute to walk to reach the hotel.

You can take a public bus to save money on your trip. Buses from the airport are consistent and frequent, and take you to Valletta’s main square.

It is a 7-minute walk from the square to the hotel. Just consider how much luggage you travel with.

There is no need to drive in Valletta. All attractions are close by and parking is nearly impossible.
