There are limited places to relax close to the water.

Expect to walk up a steep hill to find a quieter spot to lay your towel. This is something to consider if you struggle with fatigue and mobility.

If the Blug Lagoon is on your bucket list, arrive early in the morning or later in the evening. These times are a little less busy.

Or better yet, find a less popular but equally stunning location to swim and snorkel.

✅HELPFUL TIP: Bring your own drinks to avoid purchasing the overpriced beverages and snacks they sell in the few shops on Comino.

To avoid the busy season, visit during the shoulder season when the weather is still warm but there are fewer tourists.

Summer is the busiest (and most popular) time for boat trips in Malta.

We visited in July, and a boat trip in Malta was a must! However, be prepared for higher prices and more crowds.

If you’re looking for a romantic excursion, you may want to consider a Sunset Cruise to the Blue Lagoon.

✅HELPFUL TIP: If you travel at the start of April or the end of October, it can get cold and windy on the open water, so pack warm clothing.

✅HELPFUL TIP: If you’re staying at one of the amazing adult only hotels in Valletta, it’s easy to take the ferry to Sliema to join your boat tour. Or choose a tour that includes a transfer from your hotel.

10. What to Bring on a Malta Boat Trip

Going on a boat tour is one of the best things to do in Malta, but you need to be prepared. Here are a few essentials you should bring on your boat trip.

✅ Water: in the summer it gets HOT, so always carry water with you

✅ Sunscreen: (preferably reef-safe) the sun is hot and there will be limited shade on Comino, the boat deck, and when swimming in lagoons

✅ Sunglasses & Hat: again for the limited shade

✅ Swimsuit: a given… no swimming nude here

✅ Waterproof phone case/cover: better to be safe than sorry!

✅ Seasickness Bands or Tablets: I swear by these sea bands

✅Snacks: if you’re like me, you need snacks all day. Drinks & snacks for purchase on the boat/Comino will be pricey!
